Sonnis Paintings are introduced in this months spanish Radical Surf Magazine.

Sonni has just won the Nautic Sup Crossing 2011, which is a 10km distance race down the river Seine. From the Bibliothèque Nationale de France to Quai de Javel, the course took the competitors under 15 Parisian bridges, from Bercy to Pont Neuf, to Notre Dame, the Conciergerie, Musée d’Orsay and past the Eiffel Tour. In the mens class Eric Terrien dominated again.

Janni is the new longboard champion and got second in the shortboard category, both in the womens class. The contest was held this October 2011 in Mimizan Southern France in great conditions.

Over the weekend 10th to 12th July the first worldcup in Standup Paddelling took place in the Hafencity of Hamburg. 27.000 Spectators watch some exciting races.
The winner of the mens class comes from Hawaii: Ekolu Kalama. Second got French Eric Terrien, who trains in the north of Fuerteventura.

Jannis just won the girls under 21 years contest Circuito Canarias in the gnarly shorebreak of Cotillo. Big Close out Sets had to be duckdived, sometimes the samller waves had at least a little shoulder to work on.

Because Sonni won this years open women and the women longboard, she got now 10 German national titles. The contest was held in Hossegor, France in October.
Sonnis little sister Janni got 3 in the girls longboard divesion. Then on the way to the ISA world surfing games in Portugal Sonni took part in a road trip around northern Spain. The Team Gemany placed 17th, the best result in their history. See also:

For windsurfers this summer started incredible. A few weeks ago we already got 2 weeks of clean Glass Beach conditions.
Now we got wind and waves since 3 days, surf is building up to 12 feet. Yesterday and the day before we already got masthigh sets

Giron,South-west France. just a week before Sonni was on a foto trip for Germans

The Mtv crew was on Fuerteventura filming
for one of their new series. A chance for us to meet very nice people and it was a pleasure for to have them here. They were filming in the shop, Jürgen shaping. But the theme was, that a young surfer named Finn
got teached by Sonni learning a new surfing move. If he could learn it within 3 days?

30 Years of Surf Shop Sylt

Thomas and Mike Herz and Northshore owner Jürgen Hönscheid
founded the shop in 1977 on the island of Sylt, Germany. It was one of the first surf shops in Germany. Shapers from Hawaii, Australia, England, France were working
in the factory, shaping some of the first custom made windsurfers and surfboards.
The surf shop sylt crew organized big windsurfing events, up to
the world cup in 1983. 1986 Thomas and Jürgen moved to the Canary Islands,
sold the business on Sylt. Today, Margit und Sven are running the shop
and celebrate the 30th anniversary of Surf Shop Sylt. Congratulations!!!

just before our holidays in denmark we got
a few days nice Glass Beach and the chance to try out the new board. With its new bottom shape and thinner rails in the back it performed just great.

Janni just painted her dreamboy on the
bottom of her 6.2, so this guy can have a look at the fishes while she is ripping.
She just came back from Sylt, again she could win
the girls devison of the anual Buhne 16
Longboard Festival, second got Josy Knuth.
At the womens Bitsy got a second place, the Mens won Tom Knuth in perfect style , second Angelo Schmidt.

For the first time Sonni is trying this year
contests on the Epsa tour. First the Kana Beach in Biarritz and now the Pantin Classic in Gallicia, Northern Spain. She now is 15th on the rankings. All contest favored rights, which was a bit a disadvantage for her
going backside, but she is more than happy
for this first try.
Unfortunately she can not take part on the last contest of this tour, because she goes at the same time to Huntington Beach, California for the ISA World Contest.

Sonni wins the 6th time the German Championships from the 27th May to
3rd of June 2006 in St. Girons, Southern France.
Starting in 3 categories like women open, women longboard and the prestigious open, normally dominated by the boys.
It was a tough work for her getting throught a lot of heats each day. The forecasts
called for flat conditions on thursday so the well organized contest organized by the
german federation DWV had to speed up. On wednesday, the last day Sonni participated in 3 finals, which up to date in the history of the contest was only accomplished by the german Champion Nikolaus von Rupp.
The conditions of the contest: the first days fairly acceptable with often no wind
in the mornings and up to 3 foot typical beachbreak waves, the last days more and more declining. Sonnis 6th title in the womens open proved, that she can only be beaten
so far under one circumstance, that she is not participating like it was the case last
year. Her longboardtitle on a borrowed board from longboard-vicechampion Dieter Geralds shows her ability to adapt and her 4th place in the open competing with the mens her level in surfing.

The German Windsurfing Yearbook is a
very interresting new book every windsurfer should have a look at. Jürgen wrote about history of windsurfing, besides very nice pictures, interview with Björn Dunckerbeck and test of all the current boards and sails.
Online the book is sold out, but its still available at shops and newspaperstands.

Since a few days the tradewinds started and offered us some nice conditions for sailing at Glass Beach. Waves were about head high
and the wind sort off gusty. With summer we also changed our shop hours.
In the morning 10.00 to 13.00, in the evenings 18.00 to 20.00 Sundays closed.

The competition was held in Las Palmas,
Gran Canaria on the beach of La Cicer in
marginal conditions

This weekend our surfclub mar azul organized a contest at the beach
in Hierro.A lot of work was put into the beach area we containers, tends
a cheringuito with sandwiches and cool drinks, music, computerscoring ...........
The first day was picturelike perfekt with sunny weather and some good,
building surf in the right of bubbles. The first rounds were helt with no
major surprises. Sunday morning it was way different and the surf got too big with strong sideshore winds. We had to be flexible and moved the contest to Bristol.
Which proved to be the right move with excellent conditions.Specially the Longboarders were scoring great rides on the huge outside peak.
Where the mens got some nice tubes on the inside. In the girls finals
Windsurfing World Cup Star Iballa got serious in dropping in on Sonni,
destroying her best wave of the heat. If she needs this kind of tactics for
winning a local contest and feels happy?
Otherwise the Mar Azul Surfclub contest was agaiin a big success with great
surfing –see you next time.

On the island of Sylt Bitsy and Jo´s little and sweet girl Joana was born in the end of July.
The parents are very proud .

Tim and his brother Tom,both sons of surf legend Gaston from Sylt,are only a few of the new generation of Surfers in Germany.Many are childs of lifeguards like
the daughters of Tom Knuth,the son of Niggi Brüggen and so on

Like 2 years ago we went agaiin to denmark
with our camper.We started on Sylt,and drove all the way up to Klitmöller in the North of denmark.Its a very beautiful landscape up there and we really love the nothsea climate.All the time in klitmöller we had wave almost every day.Not very big,but really fun and sometimes even with offshores.On Jannis birthday we had a peak for ourselves,clean 2 foot waves with our longboards.Sometimes it got windy and Jürgen had good times windsurfing.

Since a week we got really nice conditions
on glass beach and a Spot more south for both windsurfing and surfing.Since a was not very crowded it was super fun.

Yesterday Acid Drop was working well and
there were alomost 20 Surfers out,mostly with boards around 7.4Guns.I didnt surf that place for a long time,so I had to get used to that size and the bigger boards agaiin.Sonni,fresh back from Hawaii,snapped her board on the third wave.She had a nice time on Oahu with our friends Sigrid and Hubert. The waves were
4 to 12 feet during her stay a she was surfing almost every day.On the last day she was invited to the the Naish house,where she met some of our old friends like Carol,Rick and Kay,Donna and Scott.
This summer I will work on a blank system which I have in mind long time.I built already a few prototypes and they last and last without any problems. Its basicly and sandwich construction with white high density foam,its like a clos tolerance blank and a normal shaper and glasser can finish it up with traditional material like glass and Polyester resin.The price will be between
a sandwich and a regular board.

The steady weather patterns with sout east winds delivered some good windsurfing mainly in Majanicho,At the 7th January there were some over masthigh sets closing out the entire bay .The wind was a bit too offshore so we decided to sail in front ouf our house at Rocky Point.

In one ofe the canarian online magazines we found a foto of one of our clients,Artemi. Doing a nice aerial in Las Palmas,Gran Canaria.

The first Winterswell arrived and delivered nice waves at all the northshore.Habourwall ( "muelle") had long perfect lefthanders with a ocasionally
right.The wind didn´t come up so it stayed glassy.
Shown here is Antonio with a 6.0 northshore Fishboard with
evo nose.He said the board works really well even in bigger size waves .Its superfast and
helped him just make the sections.

We have just been in Klitmöller Denemark with our camper.Sonni took part on the
SOULWAVE and the northsea
send some ok waves for the competicion.The last day it was glassy and there were some
1 to 2 foot waves on a little sandy point.The water wasn´t too cold ,the smoked fish was
tasty and we had a great time
with good quality waves.

From the End of August to about the 21st of September we are in Holidays ,but Marie Claire will run the shop every day except Sundays for a few hours. She will post the opening hours on the door,which can vary from day to day.

Our new surfclub marazul did the first contest in Bristol(shooting gallery) .It was well organized and the surf was
pretty nasty specially with low tide and sideshoreconditions.
Sonni won the womens devison,The next contest is planed in Burro (Glass Beach)
on the 2/3 of August.So far we had
a lot of northeast swells this summer,so we hope the best for
the contest.

Charl (Karl Lang),famous
photographer, organized a
photoproduction for German SHAPE Magazin this spring on Fuerteventura.
It turned out really well .Basicly the girls are showing the technique of surfing and also some fitness/streching exercises for the August magazine.In the September
Edition Bitsy will show some lifeguarding.

This winter a lot of the local surfers had a closer look on the
big wave spots of fuerteventura.
Northshore surfboards shaper Danny delivered some classic Gun designs up to 9.3.Shown here are Rhedo,Miguel and Steffen.Not pictured are Ben,Bob,Graeme,Stu and others.Most of the big wave action is done on a place called "acid drop" with a dangerous rock in the line up.
